How to Brush your teeth
It actually takes 120 seconds, which is a FULL 2 minutes! Most of us don't even come near that amount of time. A short tutorial follows (I'm sure you can't wait to read this!):
- Brush the cheek side surfaces of your uppers, followed by doing the same on the lowers
- Brush the tongue side surfaces of your uppers, followed by doing the same on the lowers
- Now clean the chewing surfaces of all your teeth
- Don't forget to brush your tongue in order to keep your breath nice and fresh
Pay special attention to your restorations (crowns and fillings etc.), and to your gum line areas.
Type of brush
It is best to use a brush that has soft, round ended bristles. The head of the brush should be small enough to be able to reach the very back teeth, and all other areas of the mouth. An alternative would be to use an electric toothbrush, especially for those who have problems with manual dexterity.
Toothpaste to Use
Some toothpastes have specific benefits such as preventing cavities, preventing gum inflammation, tooth discoloration & tooth sensitivity. Ask us if you need some advice on which toothpaste is best for you.
How Often to Replace Your Toothbrush
Every 3 to 4 months or when the bristles show wear and tear, whichever one occurs first. You may not have thought of this, but change your brush after you've had a cold, since germs can hide and collect on the brush and can re infect you.
